Hotline Calls

The local newspaper recently ran a full week of stories related to child abuse and the very serious issues facing mandated reporters. In light of recent events in our district, principals have become especially mindful to err on the side of caution - thus, the hotlining of teachers has increased considerably.

If you are contacted by an investigator, we strongly advise SNEA members to not conduct an interview with an investigator from DSS without first contacting our office. Get the name of the Child Services investigator, the phone number of the investigator, and tell the investigator you will have your attorney contact them to set up a meeting.

Though most claims are found to be unsubstantiated, there can be very serious consequences of an investigation conducted by DSS, including loss of license to teach. In the present climate, it's simply not worth the risk.
