Donate a Book to Read Across America

The NEA's Read Across America is a national celebration of reading that began ten years ago on Dr. Seuss's birthday. The idea was simple - promote reading by encouraging people to stop what they're doing and share a book with a child.

The Power of One

Here in Springfield, we are celebrating Read Across America with a challenge to our members to contribute to the Power of One campaign . . . to donate one K-3 book per member. The books will be collected and distributed to students in Title I schools here in our district in an effort to promote shared reading at home.

If all of our members were to donate one K-3 book between now and the first week of March, we could distribute over 900 books for children to take home and share with members of their family.

You can drop off your donations to the SNEA offices, 1525 W. Sunshine. If building reps would like to contribute to this effort by collecting books at your site, we'd be happy to come by your building and pick them up.

Thanks for your help in this annual campaign to spread the joy of reading to those who may not have the resources to buy their own books.
